Gary Ross to take the Reigns on 'Venom'

So, I got excited cause Zombieland co-writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick were said to be writing Spidey spinoff, Venom.  NOW, its is being reported that writer of Spiderman 4, Gary Ross is taking over and also directing the film.  (Here we go...)

Ross is repsonsible for rewriting James Vanderbilt's Spiderman 4 and will get cracking on Venom as soon as he's done with his work.  Fortunately for us, Ross has NO TIES to Spiderman 3, but instead tied to Spiderman himself, Tobey Maguire.  Ross wrote and directed both Seabiscuit and Pleasantville.  Another positive note is that Ross co-wrote the 1988 hit Big. So, although my high hopes have dissimated with the abscence of Reese and Wernick on the project; it's nice to know that there is a possibility for Venom to rise up from the Spidey 3 trainwreck.

In case you were wondering, (like I have) will Topher Grace be cast as Eddie Brock/Venom once more?  I don't have any beef with Grace as an actor, but he just wasn't right for this role at all.  I am thankful to tell all of you that Topher will NOT be back and will likely be recast.
